What Are ETFs…

profile

I help everyday people regain control of their money and use their income with confidence, clarity, and purpose.

Most people feel financially stretched and out of control—blaming external factors like the economy or their income. But lasting financial change comes from mastering what’s already within your control. I specialise in teaching practical money skills that help everyday people gain clarity, confidence, and control over their finances — so you can make intentional decisions, reduce stress, and create long-term stability and independence.

Have you ever wanted to invest in overseas markets but weren't quite sure where to start?

Or perhaps you've heard terms like ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) but never really understood what they are or why they're becoming so popular.

If so, you're not alone.

One of the biggest misconceptions about investing is that you need to be an expert before you begin. In reality, successful investing often starts with understanding a few simple concepts and ETFs are one of those.

So, what exactly is an ETF?

An Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) is simply a collection of investments grouped together into a single fund.

Instead of buying shares in just one company, an ETF allows you to invest in many companies — or even entire markets — with a single investment.

For example, you could choose an ETF that tracks:

  • The New Zealand share market
  • Australian shares
  • US companies
  • Global share markets
  • Property
  • Infrastructure
  • Bonds
  • Commodities such as gold

Rather than researching dozens (or even hundreds) of individual investments, an ETF gives you instant diversification in one simple investment.

Why do many investors like ETFs?

For many people, ETFs offer a straightforward way to start investing because they can provide:

✅ Diversification across many companies

✅ Simple access to New Zealand and international markets

✅ Less reliance on the performance of a single company

✅ A low-maintenance way to build long-term wealth

Like any investment, ETFs still carry risk and their value can rise and fall. That's why it's important to understand what you're investing in and ensure it aligns with your own goals and timeframe.

Education first. Investing second.

One of the things I'm passionate about is helping people feel confident around money.

The more you understand how different investment options work, the better equipped you'll be to make informed decisions — without feeling overwhelmed by financial jargon or market noise.

Knowledge builds confidence, and confidence helps you make better financial decisions over the long term.

🎥 Did you know I publish two free investment videos every week?

Every Tuesday, I provide a New Zealand Share Market Update, where I explain what's happening on the NZX in plain English.

Every Thursday, I review a New Zealand-listed company, ETF, bond, or another investment topic requested by viewers.

My goal isn't to tell you what to buy or sell — it's to help you better understand how markets work so you can become a more informed and confident investor.

If there's a share, ETF, investment fund or financial topic you'd like me to explain in a future video, simply reply to this email. I genuinely enjoy creating content that answers the questions you're asking.

Here's to building financial confidence — one step at a time.
