Over the past few weeks, I’ve been running KiwiSaver sessions with businesses around the country – and one theme keeps coming up: many people don’t realise the true power of their KiwiSaver.
So, I thought I’d share a few quick insights that might help you too.
💰 How Your KiwiSaver Can Grow
Let’s start with the basics. If you’re 30 years old, earning $50,000, and contributing the minimum 3%, by age 65 you could have around $188,000 saved.
That’s about $173 a week in extra income on top of your NZ Super. Not bad for simply sticking with KiwiSaver!
🚀 The Power of Small Increases
Here’s where it gets exciting:
- 3% contributions = $188,000 ($173/week)
- 4% contributions = $216,000 ($199/week)
- 10% contributions = $385,000 ($355/week)
Just a small bump in contributions now can make a huge difference later.
❌ Do You Really Have to Take It Out at 65?
One of the biggest myths I hear is that you must withdraw your KiwiSaver at 65.
✅ The truth is, you don’t. You can keep it invested and draw a regular income – just like a personal pension. That means your money can keep working for you well into retirement.
🌟 Your Retirement Boost
Think of KiwiSaver as giving your future self a pay rise. Every extra percent you contribute now builds into more freedom, more choice, and more peace of mind later.
👉 If you’d like to play around with the numbers yourself, try the KiwiSaver Calculator on sorted.org.nz. It’s simple, free, and eye-opening.
And remember – it’s never too early (or too late) to take control of your KiwiSaver.
